A road trip to my home town was well over due; so a trip down memory lane led me to one of my favorite venues in Wisconsin; the Route 20 in Racine, WI. to see one of my favorite bands perform once again, the mighty Sevendust out of Atlanta, GA.
I had never seen any of the other supporting bands either, so I was really looking forward to checking out their performances for the first time! Sometimes it’s really cool to enter a show ‘blind’ of what the other bands are like so the first time experience of them is pure- at least that is an aspect I always enjoy about catching a band for the first time.
The first band to kick off the night was the hard rock/alternative metal band Imperial Fall out of Southern Wisconsin. These dudes are also the winners of the Wisconsin Area Music Industry (WAMI), which makes total sense to me since they are opening for awesome line-ups like these!
Burden Of The Sky, from Bloomington, IL was next in the line up to get the crowd good and whipped up for the headliner. By now the venue was packed with fans in every corner. The energy of everyone’s excitement was building even more anticipation for me. I still was having trouble grasping the fact that I was actually THERE covering this show with one of my favorite bands! The feeling was unreal!
After a bit of a break, it was time for Sevendust to take the stage! Sevendust brought their full set for the evening. They touched on all their fan favorites starting with “Dirty“ off the new album All I See is War followed up with a huge fan favorite (as well as one of mine) “Denial.”
Lajon asked who has been with Sevendust from the beginning, so of course, I had to throw him the horns while I was crouched in the pit. He looked right at me and I just nodded and said “Hell yes!” he gave me a big smile and they kicked into “Reconnected.”
Then it was time to leave the blazing hot pit for a cool-down. The pit was 16 inches between the stage and the fence and trust me, I could feel it heaving from the load of people behind it! The whole place was rockin’ to the sweet sounds of Sevendust and the crowds both inside and outside the building were singing along with the songs all set long. It was an amazing experience! People love Sevendust and they show they love their fans as well.
Another amazing night on the scene in the books for Maehem Underground Media! I simply can’t thank everyone enough for allowing me to have this opportunity. Thank you to the fantastic Route 20 employees who were all working super hard that night and thank you to everyone working this awesome tour who got me there. All of the bands were killer! I can’t wait to thrash again!
