Maehem News: CHILD BITE Announces Live Tour Dates

Detroit punk/metal unit CHILD BITE will take to the streets in the coming weeks on a month-long rash of live dates. The trek begins mid-February with a six-show run that includes an appearance on No Coast Fest in Arlington, Texas with Cherubs, Big’n, and others. In March, the band will play three warm up shows including a performance in Cincinnati, Ohio with Sheer Terror and Carnivore A.D. before joining Today Is The Day on a portion of their No Good To Anyone tour. CHILD BITE‘s journey will run through two dozen US cities from March 9th through April 5th. Additional support will be provided by The Obsessed and -16- on select shows. See all confirmed dates below.

CHILD BITE will be touring in support of their Blow Off The Omens full-length, released late last fall via Housecore Records. Captured by legendary engineer Steve Albini (Nirvana, Neurosis, The Jesus Lizard) and mixed by Grammy award-winning engineer Collin Dupuis (Tomahawk, Dr. John, Lana Del Rey), the nine-track offering is a leaner, meaner follow-up to the band’s critically lauded 2016 full-length, Negative Noise. From the head bob-inducing, noise rock groove of “Vexed Life” to the Jello-Biafra-with-NoMeansNo-esque freight train that is “They All Look Away,” Blow Off The Omens covers a lot of ground within its half-hour running time. Riffs indebted to both Piggy and Pig Champion root their way throughout the album like alt-metal/hardcore hogs on the hunt.

CHILD BITE’s Blow Off The Omens is out now on CD, digital, and limited-edition vinyl formats.
For physical orders, visit the Housecore store at THIS LOCATION. For digital orders, go the CHILD BITE Bandcamp page at THIS LOCATION where the record can be streamed.

Maehem News: KOJ New Single And Live Session Video ‘Jenny’

German indie three-piece KOJ share their new single “Jenny” along with a live session video. It’s the second single from the bands Long Branch Records label debut album “HOME” coming Spring 2020. The song “Jenny” talks about experiencing dark moments in your life and feeling like there is no possible way out of it. KOJ wanted to explore the way someone might perceive the world through this lense of anxiety and hopelessness and it made them wonder what it might take for that person to see a silver lining and to feel like they belong again.

KOJ comments on new single “Jenny”:”Jenny was written in our home studio and it was a very intuitive and collaborative process. The three of us started jamming randomly at the beginning of a songwriting session and it just sort of came together. Beray Habip, our producer and engineer, coordinated the whole thing and guided us through the process of making the song. In a way Jenny came out of thin air, but then again this is one of those songs that seems to have been waiting somewhere in the collective subconscious just to be written.

Stream the song HERE

Basically it only took us one day to write the entire track and record a demo version. It was such a wonderful feeling to listen to Jenny at the end of that day, realising that ‘wow, we really did this!’. We then took the demo to Toolhouse Studios to record the final version of the song. So, the song is called Jenny, which originally came from ‘Jennifer Lawrence’, which was the working title for the track. The song has a line about a silver lining, so we thought of ‘Silver Linings’ and about Jennifer Lawrence. We had started this weird habit on previous songs of temporarily naming the songs after celebrities, before committing to a proper song title. We created quite the line-up with names such as Pamela Anderson or Scarlett Johansson, before renaming them for the album. Jennifer Lawrence became Jenny and stayed this way, because the name also has a very personal reference and connection to the theme of the song.”

Extreme, abrasive, aggressive, and anthemic, the record hinges on no holds-barred lyrical misanthropy and insurgent instrumental intricacy as it sharpens any and all edges to guillotine precision. Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue is out now on CD, vinyl, and digital formats in North America via Housecore Records. CANNIBAL CORPSE continues to tour in support of their critically-lauded Red Before Black full-length released last year via Metal Blade Records. Many words come to mind when you hear the name CANNIBAL CORPSE, but only one truly defines the soon-to-be thirty-year death metal veterans: Unstoppable. Produced by Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Goatwhore), Red Before Black serves to not only reiterate this but to once more raise the stakes, making it abundantly clear who sets the standard when it comes to manifesting consistently compelling music that is as brutal as it is complex. “Throughout our career, we’ve tried to improve the precision of both our musical execution and our album production, while still maintaining full-on aggression. Red Before Black continues in that direction, but might go even further on the aggressive side of things. It’s definitely precise, but it has a rawness to it that goes beyond anything we’ve done recently,” asserts bassist Alex Webster. “We really worked super hard crafting these songs, practicing them, and getting them where we wanted to be more so than on any of our previous albums,” adds drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz. “And as Alex said, musically I think it’s the rawest sound we’ve had – and at the same time I think it’s our most focused, tightest, and catchiest record.”

Maehem News: ATREYU Release ‘House Of Gold’ Video + Summer Tour Dates

Atreyu have dropped the video for their new single “House of Gold,” directed by Monte Legaspi. Watch it HERE.

“‘House of Gold‘ is a really important song on the album, especially for myself and Alex. This song is about finding pure love. For us, that was through our children. It’s finding something or someone that truly gives you purpose,” said drummer Brandon Saller.   “For the video, we didn’t want to take a literal approach,” he continued. “We wanted to sort of just go off the rails. We wanted to continue to do things that seemed fresh to us, aesthetically. This is an extension of the video aesthetic that we dove into so far on this record, but with a sort of comic book-like, alternate reality twist. The director, Monte Legaspi, really made the concept his own and created something truly unique.”

The song appears on the band’s latest effort, “In Our Wake,” out now via Spinefarm Records.

Maehem News: German Metal Legends RAGE Return To SPV/Steamhammer!

25th Studio Album Due Out In January 2020
Festival Tours Set For Summer & Winter 2019

15 years after the arrival of their live recording “From The Cradle To The Stage,” German metal legend Rage have returned to Hanover imprint, SPV/Steamhammer. The band featuring frontman Peavy Wagner, guitarist Marcos Rodriguez and drummer Vassilios “Lucky” Maniatopoulos is currently busy working on new material for their upcoming album “Wings Of Rage” (working title), scheduled for release on January 10, 2020. A lead single will be out in September 2019, the second single to be lifted from the album is due to be released just before Christmas. “Wings Of Rage” is the group’s 25th studio album and will be recorded at the Soundchaser Studio in Burscheid. Peavy promises an offering featuring “the essence of our musical development, the kind of songs that we have stood for since the mid-eighties.”

Rage are planning to embark on a festival tour across Europe even before delivering their new material to present, together with the Lingua Mortis Orchestra, the full XIII album live for the first time. The show had its baptism of fire at the 70,000 Tons Of Metal Cruise, and a special highlight will be Rage’s appearance at the W:O:A at the beginning of August 2019. Towards the end of the year, Rage are scheduled to play lots of important winter festivals, before their major “Wings Of Rage” tour kicks off in February 2020.

“We’re really happy to be back with SPV/Steamhammer,” says Peavy Wagner. “Since our very successful and enjoyable collaboration in the early 2000s we’ve known that we’re in expert hands with Olly Hahn and his team. Olly and I share a long-standing friendship, he will continue to promote Rage with his usual commitment.”

SPV/Steamhammer label manager Olly Hahn is delighted with his new signing: “It’s fantastic to have a band such as Rage on our roster again, their outstanding role in the development of German metal is undisputed. To be in a position to release their 25th studio album fills me with great pride and ambition.”
