Maehem News: KOJ New Single And Live Session Video ‘Jenny’

German indie three-piece KOJ share their new single “Jenny” along with a live session video. It’s the second single from the bands Long Branch Records label debut album “HOME” coming Spring 2020. The song “Jenny” talks about experiencing dark moments in your life and feeling like there is no possible way out of it. KOJ wanted to explore the way someone might perceive the world through this lense of anxiety and hopelessness and it made them wonder what it might take for that person to see a silver lining and to feel like they belong again.

KOJ comments on new single “Jenny”:”Jenny was written in our home studio and it was a very intuitive and collaborative process. The three of us started jamming randomly at the beginning of a songwriting session and it just sort of came together. Beray Habip, our producer and engineer, coordinated the whole thing and guided us through the process of making the song. In a way Jenny came out of thin air, but then again this is one of those songs that seems to have been waiting somewhere in the collective subconscious just to be written.

Stream the song HERE

Basically it only took us one day to write the entire track and record a demo version. It was such a wonderful feeling to listen to Jenny at the end of that day, realising that ‘wow, we really did this!’. We then took the demo to Toolhouse Studios to record the final version of the song. So, the song is called Jenny, which originally came from ‘Jennifer Lawrence’, which was the working title for the track. The song has a line about a silver lining, so we thought of ‘Silver Linings’ and about Jennifer Lawrence. We had started this weird habit on previous songs of temporarily naming the songs after celebrities, before committing to a proper song title. We created quite the line-up with names such as Pamela Anderson or Scarlett Johansson, before renaming them for the album. Jennifer Lawrence became Jenny and stayed this way, because the name also has a very personal reference and connection to the theme of the song.”

Single Review: IMMORTALIS- ‘Leviathan’

Hold up- is that new Immortalis?! You betcha! Wisconsin Progressive/deathcore legends Immortalis are finally releasing their latest single ‘Leviathan’ and MAN this one is a BANGER! This is the first release since their debut EP Symmetry in 2017- so naturally there has been much anticipation surrounding this release; which is set for October 26th, along with a video (like-WHAT?!) which the band teased earlier this month. Check it out below!

The beginning of this track reminds me of watching Midsommar, which may or may not be because I just watched it, but what I mean is it has a haunting allure to it that captivates you the moment the track begins. The vocals take hold of your soul with a vicious death-growl. As the track progresses I definitely get a Between The Buried and me vibe. As it bounces between death style and more progressive styles you get a bit of the clean vocals that play really well with the more aggressive vocals. As well as brilliant lyrical content- and for me, I am always there for those lyrics.

Photo: Stephen Hallam

This track is beautifully balanced in the instrumental aspects as well. The guitars have killer hooks and leads throughout the entire track and the rhythms are relentless! Some of the guitar riffs give me some real gamer-feels too; the guitar leads are simply EPIC! Not to mention a SUPER special and SUPER secret guest is featured on this release as well- we can’t give away everything before you get the chance to indulge in this for yourself but lets just say *insert mind-blown and shooketh emojis here*.

It’s difficult for me to find the right words to describe what I feel when I experience ‘Leviathan’– but what I can tell you is that it is no surprise to me that Immortalis fans old and new are at the very edge of their seats waiting for this release! I know that I am!

Catch them LIVE at the SV2 in Green Bay, WI on October 25th- event link HERE!

JINJER Release New Single & Official Music Video, ‘On The Top’ New Album, Macro, out October 25

Pre Order Macro HERE

“A cocktail of modern prog metal, ‘Macro’ is the album where Jinjer show us what the future of heaviness sounds like.” Loudwire

Ukrainian modern metal frontrunners JINJER have returned with a vengeance! Today, JINJER turns heads with a new music video for the gut-punching anthem “On The Top”. Never failing to deliver an unforgettable hook, “On The Top” slinks along a punishing groove before soaring into melodic passages – just another example of what listeners can expect to be met with on the band’s upcoming full-length album, Macro, out October 25, 2019 via Napalm Records.

“While one is climbing, the rest is falling down in the name of profit – Is it lonely on the top?”

JINJER says about “On The Top”:

“Have you ever felt like a rat in a rat race? It seems like the world is spinning faster and faster every single day and everyone is going crazy searching for this thing called success. However, we tend to forget that real happiness has nothing to do with it- not a career, achievements, money etc. Is it really worth climbing up the ladder just to be ON to the TOP if there is nothing or no one there for you in the end? It’s OK to want to be the best you can possibly be but just remember that success has its price but it’s up to you to decide how much you are willing to pay for it. It’s your choice to make but your burden to bare …”

Devastating riffs, aggressive vocals, powerful melodies and astonishingly deep lyrics make Macro JINJER’s most advanced and undeniable album yet – taking the listener on a journey of trauma, power struggle and greed with a progressive groove metal backdrop.

While January 2019’s Micro EP proved to be a short exercise in madness and technical brilliance, fans still aren’t prepared for what JINJER has in store with the absolutely unbridled Macro. Defying all boundaries, the aptly titled opening track, “On The Top”, features the band`s eclectic trademarks and obeys one law only – their own. Frontwoman Tatiana Shmaylyuk defines the unique character of the Ukrainian act with menacing whispers, enthralling clean vocals and brutal growls whilst lethally groovy riff cascades melt into twisted songwriting. There is space for a microscopic bit of reggae “Judgement (& Punishment)” in all the heaviness, the double bass is beautifully out of control on “Pausing Death”, and technically superior tracks like “Home Back” defy gravity.

JINJER says about Macro:

“Going from small things to bigger ones is the natural order of things, and we’ve paved a path from Micro to Macro, carrying the weight of feelings, emotions and experience. This is a monumental point in the story of JINJER, the quintessence of what makes us what we are now as the people and as a band. We are proud of every single note sung and played on Macro and can’t wait for you to give it a listen!”

Tracklist:
1.On the Top
2.Pit of Consciousness
3 Judgement (& Punishment)
4. Retrospection
5. Pausing Death
6. Noah
7. Home Back
8. The Prophecy
9. lainnereP

Macro is available in the following formats:

Maehem News: DIAMOND HEAD Unleash Video For ‘The Sleeper’ + European Tour Dates

British heavy metal icons DIAMOND HEAD are pleased to unveil a lyric video for “The Sleeper.” The tune comes by way of the band’s critically-lauded The Coffin Train full-length, released earlier this year via Silver Lining Music.

Their fourth single, “The Sleeper” is epic, commencing with calm and sober vocals that build into a poignant and powerful riff and chorus that takes the listener on a dark, reflective journey. Of the track, vocalist Rasmus Bom Andersens comments, “It’s such a big sounding track that it almost takes you on a cinematic journey. ‘The Sleeper’ is a follow up to ‘Silence’ off the last record. We had fans who loved the orchestral elements and I wanted to give them some more. It was inspired by a favorite Sci-fi movie from my childhood.” Adds guitarist Brian Tatler, “Starting life in 2016 with the main riff, I decided to demo it and see if I could make it into a song. With a bit of work this grew into a powerful monster with Ras’ lyrics inspired by the 1984 film Dune. It’s very moody and dynamic with brilliant orchestration.”

The Coffin Train is out now on Silver Lining Music. For order options, go toTHIS LOCATION.

The Coffin Train, DIAMOND HEAD‘s eighth studio album, is a glorious testimony to Brian Tatler and Rasmus Bom Andersens’ masterful ability to create the flavors necessary for prime DIAMOND HEAD music. At once fresh and exuberant while also being a stone-cold classic slice of old-school heavy metal excellence, the record is packed with the sort of riff-fueled power for which the band is known. The Coffin Train was recorded in several different places with guitars, bass, and vocals captured at Vigo Studios in Walsall and drums at Circle Studios in Birmingham. The album was produced and mixed at Ras’ Raw Sound Studio in London.   When it comes to the concepts behind TheCoffin Train, Tatler left the heart to Bom Andersens, who being a thinker and life-conceptualizer, doesn’t lack sources of inspiration.

DIAMOND HEAD have not only managed to create an album of pure heavy metal intensity, they have created a timeless aural statement which feels destined to see them delivering both TheCoffin Train and DH 2.0 to more fans than ever. Following an electrifying performance at Wacken Open Air, DIAMOND HEAD are relentless in their quest to bring The Coffin Train to stages around the globe. The band will tour through Europe for the rest of 2019 and are confirmed on the lineup of two very special UK shows with NWOBHM giants, Saxon, which will take place on October 19th at the legendary Hammersmith in London and October 20th at the O2 Apollo in Manchester. Endless Return will be unleashed onto the world on September 20th.

The merciless and jaw droppingly technical 10 track album was recorded at Stelthsound Studios in Thessaloniki, Greece and features artwork by Dixon Jong of Intuitive Designs.

MURDER MADE GOD commented, “Endless Return sees us achieving a new level of sophisticated, intense and atmospheric low tuned Modern Brutality. It is everything that the band is all about.”

Maehem News: CASKET ROBBERY Release Video ‘From Hell’

Madison (WI) – Midwest Death Machine CASKET ROBBERY will release new single “From Hell” on July 12. Decibel describes the single aptly: “Interspersing melodic leads in between neck-whipping grooves, Casket Robbery pull from death’s metal’s melodic side as well as its brutal one.”

CASKET ROBBERY vocalist Megan Orvold had this to say about the single and video:

“From Hell was inspired by the gruesome slayings in London by Jack The Ripper in 1888. Lyrically we tried to keep it pretty ‘classic’ Casket, very dark and tongue-in-cheek. My favorite lyric is ‘fried her kidney in a pan (yum yum), sent half, signed catch me when you can’. We also really wanted to get our amazing fans involved so we ran a contest where they could send in their best evil laugh. We actually layered them all together into different parts of the song, it was a blast! We are super excited to have Chris Collier mix and master this song, he did a fantastic job bringing this to life. For the video, we were very lucky to work with Eddie Curran of Enterprise Films. This was our first time working with him and his enthusiasm and energy for this video really came through. We’re very proud of the artwork that we will unveil later on for the single as well and we have a bunch of Midwest dates coming up. We can’t wait to see you on the road!”

Maehem News: STRIKER Unleash Music Video for ‘On The Run’ & Tour Dates

Canadian heavy metal stalwarts STRIKER have unleashed a new music video for the track “On The Run” off their sixth studio album “Play To Win,” which was released last October on the band’s own Record Breaking Records imprint. In addition to the new video, the band continues to hit the pavement with their “Summer of Shred” North American tour. Striker will join satirical metal legends Steel Panther for a string of dates in Canada this June, before returning stateside for three weeks alongside Holy Grail & Bewitcher on the “Deadly Ripping” North American tour; with a handful of headlining shows throw in between the two runs for good measure. A complete list of dates can be found below.

Commenting on the video for “On The Run” the band states, “As an independent band we are constantly pushing ourselves to be better and go further. “On The Run” is about just that; always moving forward with everything in your life. With this video we took on some new challenges with our director Lindsay Robinson in programming our own light show, and making all of the visual effects ourselves with very minimal computer graphics. We love how it turned out and we are excited to share it.

Champions in blending classic heavy metal, hard rock, and 80’s hair metal, Canadian shredders STRIKER’s sixth studio album “Play To Win” features 10 fist pounding shred-tacular anthems produced by the band plus mixed and mastered by Hendrik Udd (Firewind, Powerwolf, Hammerfall, Delain). The album follows their 2017 self-titled full length that the band supported with tours across Europe and North America with Sonata Arctica, Dark Tranquility, and Warbringer along with festival appearances at 70,000 Tons of Metal, Bang Your Head Festival (Germany) and more to add to their almost 1000 shows performed in their decade-plus career. That fifth studio album also garnered them a nomination from Canada’s JUNO awards, the country’s highest music prize, along with wins at the Edmonton Music Awards and Western Canadian Awards.

Guitarist Tim Brown comments on “Play To Win”:

” ‘Play to Win’: if you want to win you have to play the game. Find the rules and break them. This is our 6th album and 3rd independent release. If we followed the rules and listened to the industry people we’d have gone absolutely nowhere. Play To Win is about listening to yourself, following your own path, and playing that 5th ace hidden in your sleeve. This album is designed to light a fire under your ass and get you moving, and we made sure to get the most modern, ear melting sounds possible. It’s all about where metal is going, not where it has been, and this is our soundtrack to success.”

Maehem News: KOSM Premiere Music Video For ‘Wza-Y’ei’

Vancouver progressive metal band KOSM released their debut “Cosmonaut” during November 2018. A concept album loosely based on the weird fiction of H.P. Lovecraft, along with borrowing influences from the science-fiction of Frank Herbert, and Roger Zelazny, the full length serves as both musical and lyrical adventure.

The band explains:

“The cosmonaut’s journey is essentially symbolic, serving as a commentary on the human experience: a journey from confusion and anger, to transcendence and self-understanding.”

With praise from their local Vancouver metal scene and beyond for their debut full length, the band is sharing another tribute to the author H.P. Lovecraft that has inspired them, their music, and their latest music video ‘Wza-Y’ei’.

The band adds:

“The word ‘Wza-Y’ei’ is a word in Aklo, the language of the Old Ones. We are interpreting the meaning as something akin to “Om”, or the liberation of the mind. This is a summation of the album themes. Cosmonaut begins with naivety explored in the first track “Space Mead,” but ends in epiphany with ‘Wza-Y’ei’.”

“Cosmonaut” is available on all major digital platforms BandcampiTunesSpotify.

Maehem News: CONCRETE FUNERAL Premiere ‘Carnival of Contradictions’ Video

Calgary’s CONCRETE FUNERAL have been bashing their way into the ears of metal lovers in the local underground scene since 2015 and now they are bringing their debut album “Ultimum Judicium” to the masses this coming May 2019.

Unleashing their second single, ‘Carnival of Contradictions’, the heavy groove thrashers have teamed up with NoCleanSinging for premiere of the track’s video.

The band explains:

“This song is about every asshole that fucked you around or threw you under the bus. A fuck you to coat tail riders and snake in the grass types alike. Mainly thrash and groove in this tune, as well as a cool progressive section that leads you into a blistering solo and back out into the thrash/ groove zone.”
